If you’re reading this, chances are you probably know who I
am and what I’m up to, but just so we’re on the same page, my name is Joseph
and I’m about to begin a year in Iceland. I’ll be living in Reykjavík, studying
on exchange at the University of Iceland. A couple of years ago, when I visited
Europe for the first time, I stopped over in Iceland for a few days, and I was
enchanted by the country. I decided that someday I was going to live there. My
school, the University of Ottawa, offers exchanges to the University of Iceland,
and I leapt at this opportunity to live in Iceland for a year. I’ll be in Iceland
for two semesters, beginning in September and ending in May. I know nothing
about blogs, but I decided to start one so everyone at home can have an idea of
what I’m up to on that little island in the North Atlantic.
Right now I’m at Pearson Airport in Toronto. I’m flying to
Keflavík airport in Iceland via Boston. It’s very foggy outside, and our flight
is delayed, so I have no idea when I’ll get to Iceland. It took forever to
pack, but I wanted to make sure to include some Canadian essentials that may
not exist in Iceland: Kraft Dinner, peanut butter, that kind of stuff. Going to
live abroad is an insanely complicated process – I had to do a ton of
paperwork. I’m hoping I didn’t forget any vital documents!
Anyway, I don’t know what to expect but I’m sure I’ll have
lots of good stories by the time I head home to Canada. The plane seems to be
showing up so I’m outta here! More to come!
